Whether you are planning to tour the nearby historic chateaux, to sample incomparable wines, or to bicycle through the prosaic countryside of the Loire Valley, a stay at the Chateau du Portail is simply a not-to-be-missed experience.
- Today, the Chateau du Portail operates as a chambres d’ hôte (bed and breakfast), and as a host site for corporate, wedding and private party events.
- Amenities at the Chateau du Portail include a swimming pool, en suite American-style bathrooms, and wireless internet access. Additionally, the on-site concierge will assist you in booking reservations for helicopter tours, chateau tours, hot air balloon rides, horseback riding, bicycle tours, private car tours, wine tours, and restaurants.
- History: Built in the 14th Century, the Chateau du Portail originally served as the headquarters for the salt tax collectors of the Kings of France. Successive generations of French nobility constructed additions to the chateau in the 17th and 18th centuries, transforming the castle into a luxury residence.
In the 1960’s, the chateau was restored by the Comte and Comtesse d’ Allieres, who frequently hosted TSH Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco in the castle and gardens.
- The chateau du Portail may be rented in its entirety on a weekly basis (7 days and 6 nights). The Chateau sleeps 10 to 12 people in the rooms described above. Access is also permitted to the grand salon, the dining room, the library, the gardens, and the pool.
Daily maid service, a full-time concierge and continental breakfast are provided. A full-time chef can be employed for your stay and menus can be planned and approved in advance of your stay. Please contact us to discuss your staffing needs.

how
to get there:
We are situated not far from the River Loire, on the north side, midway near Amboise between Tours and Blois.
Driving Directions from Paris: If you are coming from the north via Paris you need to take the A10 motorway, sign-posted Bordeaux, and leave at the Amboise exit.
Drive down into the Loire valley and on reaching the river Loire, without crossing it, follow the signs for Blois along the N152. Drive past Blois and continue 25 km to the village of Veuves.
Turn right into Veuves from the 152. You proceed through the village of Veuve following the signs that read "Monteaux" and "Mesland." After leaving Veuves you proceed along the road that crosses farms and arrive in the village of Monteaux.
Upon entering the Monteaux, you must now follow the signs that read "Mesland" and "Chateau du Portail - Bed and Breakfast". The signs will direct you through the village. After leaving Monteaux you drive past homes and fields for 1 km and on your right, just beside the hedge, you arrive at the Chateau du Portail. A green and white sign reads " Chateau du Portail" and directs you to turn right into the driveway.
Driving Directions from Tours: If you are driving from Tours Airport follow the signs towards Amboise and Blois. Drive 14 km past Amboise down the N152, following the river Loire, and turn left into the village of Veuves.
